Houses at Murnau, 1909 – A Pioneering Masterpiece by Wassily Kandinsky
In 1909, Wassily Kandinsky created Houses at Murnau, a vibrant landscape that marks a crucial turning point in his artistic journey toward abstraction. This fine art print captures the essence of Kandinsky's bold experimentation with color and form, showcasing his unique ability to infuse everyday scenes with spiritual and emotional resonance.
Murnau, a picturesque town in the Bavarian Alps, was a significant source of inspiration for Kandinsky. Along with his companion Gabriele Münter, he spent summers there, developing his signature style that emphasized expressive color and simplified shapes. Houses at Murnau exemplifies this period, where the artist began to dissolve recognizable objects into rhythmic patches of color, paving the way for his later abstract compositions.
