Landscape with Church, 1913: A Pivotal Work by Wassily Kandinsky
Wassily Kandinsky's Landscape with Church (1913) captures the artist on the brink of total abstraction. In this vibrant composition, a church and surrounding landscape dissolve into a symphony of bold colors and dynamic forms, reflecting Kandinsky's pioneering belief in the spiritual power of color and abstraction. As a leader of the Blue Rider movement, Kandinsky sought to evoke emotion through non-representational means, and this work exemplifies his transition from figurative to abstract art.
